For Better Health
The back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. The spine has two functions; it supports us upright in our POSTURE and it protects our spinal cord. A healthy spine is ESSENTIAL to our overall health. A healthy spine ensures that accurate nerve signals flow to and from the brain, it allows joints to work safely, in an appropriate range of motion, it ensures that dynamic movements are balanced, with your muscles working in harmony, and it allows you deep breaths for optimal vitality.

Because of different stresses in our lives, some sudden and some over time, tissue injury can occur in the spine. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to inflammation, pain, and diminished function for you. If you donít use it, you lose it is very true in the spine. Untreated old injuries can deposit scar tissue in joints and damage reflexes in the spine and areas of your brain that control balance, weakening the structure of the spine and distorting normal posture. Postural distortions donít immediately cause pain, but are a serious risk factor. By the time you are in pain the nerves are inflamed and your body is in a crisis. Back pain is a symptom of an underlying problem and alleviating the pain may not necessarily fix the problem. When the posture remains weakened and distorted, the spine is no longer healthy. Over time, your OVERALL health will progressively degenerate, leaving you prone to future injuries, to damaged nerves and joints, to reduced range of motion, and to diminished vitality.

If you have chronic postural distortions, you may need spinal rehabilitation, in addition to your chiropractic adjustments. It is important to understand that the closer the human body is to its normal alignment, the better it will perform.

ē There would be highly significant cost savings if more management of low back pain was transferred to chiropractors. Liliedahl et al (2010), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
ē "The overwhelming body of evidence demonstrates that chiropractic management of low back pain is greatly superior to medical management in terms of scientific validity, safety, cost-effectiveness, and patient satisfaction." Manga Report
